Kacey Musgraves’ dog, Pepper, is a hero.
Musgraves, 36, revealed via her Instagram Stories on Sunday, October 27, that her loyal companion is recovering at home after getting bitten by a timber rattlesnake. Previously, the “Slow Burn” singer had shared that Pepper “had honestly saved” her from stepping on the snake while barefoot during a recent walk.
“Copperhead: 1, Pepper: 0,” Musgraves wrote in her Stories, per Entertainment Weekly.
The country star rushed the Australian cattle dog to the vet to be treated with antivenom, and posted several photos and videos showing Pepper with an IV.

“The bite made her lethargic,” she said in her Stories. “Those who have Blue Heelers know they ain’t ever this calm.”
As of Sunday, Pepper was still in rest mode.
“She’s home and sleeping a lot / on pain meds and getting lots of love,” Musgraves reported while posting a series of snapshots of Pepper lying on a bed. The Grammy-winning musician added: “Thank god for good dogs.”
She posted one photo seemingly snapped at the vet’s office, where someone opened Pepper’s mouth to reveal bruising on her gums.

“This is wild but the vet was showing me how the inside of her mouth and all down her neck is so bruised from that damn snakebite,” Musgraves captioned the pic.
Back in March, Musgraves released her sixth studio album, Deeper Well, and embarked on a world tour afterward. A concert film based on the tour premiered on Amazon Prime earlier this month.
On Sunday, Musgraves also took to Instagram to share images and videos of her life riding horses in the countryside and spending time with Pepper in the studio.
“October’s nearly over. ,” she wrote in a caption. “Here’s to seeing twilight more often – whether you get up for it or are already up , more sunrise rides (and coffee on said sunrise rides), fresh sourdough handmade by a friend, brave dogs that save you from stepping on a rattlesnake you didn’t see on your back porch, new songs, and all the other little sprinkles.”
Musgraves’ followers shared their support in the comment section.
“Pepper is the goodest girl, hope she gets well soon,” one fan wrote, while another remarked, “Pepper giving it all and not asking for anything in return.”
Earlier that day, the singer dumped more pics on the grid — this time, revealing her spooky Halloween festivities. She dressed as a fairy for the occasion, complete with an ethereal green minidress and wings as well as a tiara. Her guests included model Karen Elson and other music industry people.
Musgraves, who loves a pun, wrote: “fairy good time.”
