NEW GLOUCESTER — On Sunday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. friends, family, and couples of Coolidge Family Farm, a wedding venue in New Gloucester, will gather for the fourth “Running of the Brides 5K for Hunger” to raise funds for the Good Shepherd Food Bank. Walkers, runners, and their families will wear wedding dresses that have come from donations from Goodwill and Wedding Angels Bridal Boutique in Portland. After the ‘brides’ return to the venue, pizzas will be donated by Link’s Variety. Music will be provided by The Music Man DJ Service. Coffee service provided by Strange Events.
Hope to see you there!
Owner Misty Coolidge has been fighting hunger for over 20 years in numerous ways. Her passion for philanthropy started during her college days at Husson in Bangor, continued in Portland at Preble Street Resource Center, and her spark turned into a flame when she moved to New Gloucester and found the Good Shepherd Food Bank that she’s called her second home since.
In 2016 she was scouted into pageantry which has opened numerous doors and has given her an amazing platform to educate others on food insecurity, food waste, and help in the fight against hunger. In 2018 she won her first state title as Mrs. Maine International, then climbed the pageant ladder to Mrs. USA and Mrs. Worldwide. When she was crowned Mrs. USA in early 2022, she expanded her commitment to fighting hunger throughout the United States and became an Ambassador for Feeding America and she set a personal goal of volunteering at food banks in all 50 states (her #crushinghungertour). To date, she’s crossed off 32 states!
As Mrs Worldwide, she set her sights even higher and has visited 17 countries working with agencies such as FEBA and the Global Food Banking Network! Two years ago she published her first children’s book “We All Stir The Pot To End Hunger” (found on Amazon), and she’s been traveling throughout Maine reading it to gymnasiums of elementary kids in an effort to normalize hunger, help children find resources, and share her personal journey with hunger. Each year she hosts fundraising events at her venue to fill bellies in her community. Every day is a battle to fight hunger in her eyes.
