Travis Kelce is happy to be back on the scoreboard after going weeks without a touchdown.
“Big Yeti had a big day,” Jason Kelce said during the Wednesday, October 30, episode of “New Heights” while celebrating his brother’s first end zone appearance of the season.
Travis, 35, went on to share what went through his head during the big play as the Kansas City Chiefs played the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, October 27.
“Felt good to be in the end zone, man,” he told Jason, 36. “I hadn’t felt that end zone in a long time. It was kinda like, ‘Oh, s—, what do I do now?’ … It’s like when you go back home, you’re just like, ‘Well, now what do I do? Do I go see this person first or that person first? Do I go to the high school? Do I go to my favorite restaurant?’”
Taylor Swift’s Tribute to Travis Kelce Amid 1st Touchdown of NFL Season
Travis confirmed “it was electric” to score a touchdown again after his slow start to the season. “Anytime we get in the end zone right now, we gotta take that momentum and run with it, baby,” he added. “That was our focus coming into this game.”
Jason pointed out that his brother “led all receivers” on Sunday with 10 receptions for 90 yards. Travis’ touchdown came in the second quarter — and also happened to take place on National Tight Ends Day. “TOUCHDOWN TRAVIS HAS ARRIVED ,” the Chiefs wrote via Instagram alongside a photo of the athlete spiking the ball in the end zone.
Throughout the season, fans and analysts alike have debated over Travis’ less-than-stellar stats, but he did his best to shake off the criticism.
“For whatever reason, these past two games it hasn’t gone that way for me,” he said on the September 18 episode of “New Heights,” explaining, “That’s football, man. I’m not about to sit here and get frustrated about it.”
Travis noted that he “used to get really, really pissed off and almost lose my cool” if he wasn’t performing to the level that he and his teammates expect of him. “I just like to play the game to such a high level of accountability that it’s just tough for me to deal with being mediocre or having stats that represent that,” he continued, insisting, “I stopped caring about stats four or five years ago.”
Travis Kelce Sets Major Chiefs Record Without Taylor Swift in Attendance
Though his season didn’t quite start off on the right foot, Travis and the Chiefs remain undefeated. His girlfriend, Taylor Swift, wasn’t there to witness his touchdown in Las Vegas on Sunday, but she celebrated the achievement from her Eras Tour stage in New Orleans.
While performing “Midnight Rain” at the Caesars Superdome, Swift was caught mimicking Travis’ signature first down pose. Footage shared via social media showed the 34-year-old pop star pointing to one side before blowing a kiss and holding three fingers up in the air.
The subtle shout-out took place during Swift’s final of three concerts in Louisiana. She was also spotted making a touchdown gesture with her arms and throwing an imaginary football during the same song from her Midnights era in the previous two shows.
