James Stubbs won the special election for a seat on the Hermon School Committee.
Stubbs, 49, and Eugene Sullivan Jr., who goes by Gene, 47, were running for the open seat after Christopher McLaughlin resigned. The partial term expires June 30, 2025.
Stubbs had 1,791 votes compared with Sullivan’s 1,715, according to unofficial results Wednesday morning.
Both men said they ran because they wanted to help the community and bring people together.
Stubbs has lived in Hermon for 20 years and has two children in the school district. He works as a machinist for General Electric, as well as the animal control officer for the town. He said he wants to make sure children know there are career paths beside college.
