ORONO — The University of Maine will celebrate Veterans Week Nov. 8-19 with a series of events hosted by the Veterans Education and Transition Services Center in the Division of Student Life.
The celebration commences with a flag-raising ceremony at noon on Friday, Nov. 8 in front of Fogler Library, during which the Prisoner of War/Missing in Action flag will be raised in honor of the veteran community.
Other highlights include the UMaine Football vs. Bryant Military Appreciation Day Game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, presented by General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, where all current and former military members and their families are eligible for free tickets to the game. A jet from Maine’s 101st Refueling Wing will conduct a ceremonial flyover before kickoff.
The VETS Center, located in Room 161 of the Union, will be hosting a Veterans Week Open House on Tuesday, Nov. 12, where everyone is invited to have a meal catered by Moe’s Barbecue and celebrate the military-affiliated student community.
