Senior back Poppy Lambert became the University of Maine field hockey program’s all-time leading goal scorer off a penalty stroke and junior forward Kate Richardson broke a 3-3 tie in the fourth quarter as the Black Bears beat the University of California Davis 4-3 in their America East quarterfinal at Albany on Thursday morning.
Third seed UMaine, now 11-8 overall, will face second seed New Hampshire (9-9) in the semifinals on Friday at 11 a.m.
All-America East second team selection Richardson deflected a Lambert pass over UC Davis goalie Emma Giesting 1:40 into the final period for her sixth goal of the season.
Junior midfielder Olivia Geniti scored her ninth, Lambert’s was her eighth and Micaela Grajales notched her third for UMaine.
Lambert and Geniti were All-AE first team picks.
Katie Kim, Jamie Dempsey and Zoe Mohrman scored for UC Davis, which wound up 4-13.
Kim and Mohrman scored their fifth goals and Dempsey’s was her first.
UMaine had 25 shot attempts to UC Davis’ 13.
Jayde Temby and Rozarie Mrazova each played a half for UMaine and combined to make three saves.
Giesting finished with 12 stops.
