The Class A high school football playoffs begin this weekend while the other classes are in week two of their playoffs.
Here are four games to keep an eye on:
Bangor (4-5) at Lewiston (5-3), Friday, 6 p.m.
These teams earned Class A North playoff semifinal berths by each winning their last three regular season games.
Lewiston beat Bangor 10-7 in Bangor on Sept. 20 on senior Michael Caron’s 37-yard field goal with 4.7 seconds left.
Due to injury, Lewiston quarterback Lonnie Thomas and receiver Jeffrey Randall had to switch positions and Randall has thrown five touchdown passes to Thomas.
Junior quarterback Kyle Johnson has been Bangor’s catalyst.
The hard-running Johnson has put together three 100-yard rushing games, racking up 369 yards and seven touchdowns.
Lewiston coach Jason Versey has never lost to Bangor, going 3-0.
Oceanside (5-4) at Hermon (6-2), Friday, 7 p.m.
This Class C North semifinal features a prolific Oceanside rushing attack led by quarterback Zeb Foster and running back Robbie Blair, against a stout Hermon defense that has allowed just 29 points in its last four games and is well-rested after receiving a first-round bye for its finish atop the Crabtree standings.
Foster, who is playing with a broken hand, carried the ball 30 times for 230 yards and five touchdowns in a 40-30 quarterfinal win over Hampden Academy and Blair had 208 more yards on 20 carries.
Foster has rushed for 1,783 yards and 23 TDs.
The Hawks featured a balance attack headlined by running backs Bruce Coulton and the Hopkins brother, Max and Sam.
Hermon won the regular season meeting 31-6.
Houlton/Hodgdon/SA/GHCA (7-2) at Stearns/Schenck (8-1), Friday, 7 p.m.
The 8-man Small Schools North championship game involves a Stearns/Schenck team with several offensive weapons who have produced an average of 53.6 points per game against an exceptional talent in Houlton quarterback Isaiah Ervin, who has rushed for 2,150 yards and 35 touchdowns.
Ervin rushed for 487 yards and seven TDs in the 56-50 semifinal win over defending state champ Orono.
Pacing Stearns/Schenck has been dual-threat quarterback Cam Atkinson, who had an impressive showing in the 52-0 semifinal win over Ellsworth/Sumner with 181 rushing yards and four TDs on 13 carries and five completions on nine attempts for another 132 yards and a TD.
But the Minutemen also have two quality running backs in Cohen Raymond and Lucas Pelkey.
Stearns/Schenck won the regular season game, 66-16, on Oct. 4.
Nokomis (5-4) at Medomak Valley (6-2), Saturday, 1 p.m.
This is a Class C North semifinal and Medomak Valley won the early-season matchup, 32-6.
But Nokomis of Newport has won three in a row including a 26-8 quarterfinal win over Brewer last weekend.
This game features a pair of 1,000-yard rushers in Nokomis’ Seth Bowden and Medomak Valley freshman Jaydiin Ruiz.
Medomak Valley’s defense has been stellar, allowing more than 14 points in a game just once this season and that came in a 28-14 loss to Oceanside on Oct. 4.
Medomak Valley received a bye and had last weekend off.
