Junior quarterback Kyle Johnson ran for three touchdowns, including a game-clinching 26-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter, to carry Bangor to a 22-14 win over Lewiston in a Class A North high school football semifinal in Lewiston Friday night.
It was the third-seeded Rams’ fourth straight win, improving their record to 5-5 and earning them a berth in the regional final against top seed Portland next week. Portland (8-2) defeated No. 4 Windham 42-14 in Friday’s other semifinal.
Portland overpowered the Rams 35-7 in a regular season game in Bangor.
Johnson gained 78 yards on 16 carries to power the Rams’ offense, according to the Lewiston Sun Journal. His one-yard TD run late in the third quarter gave Bangor a 15-14 lead. His fourth-quarter TD run iced the game with help from the Rams’ defense which held Lewiston scoreless down the stretch.
