HOULTON, Maine — An Oakfield man was arrested over the weekend after failing to stop for police and crashing into a utility pole and another driver, according to the Houlton Police Department.
Vern L. Anderson, 25, was charged with aggravated eluding an officer, aggravated criminal mischief, reckless conduct, falsifying physical evidence, possession of a schedule W drug and operating on a suspended license.
According to police, at about 11 a.m., Saturday, an officer noticed that the blue 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck Anderson was driving on the North Road had no taillights. When police tried to pull Anderson over, he did not stop, police said.
Within minutes, Anderson lost control of the vehicle, swerved and struck a utility pole and a vehicle in the northbound lane near the Irving Big Stop, police said. He was immediately taken into custody, police added.
Eileen M. Voisine, 80, of Houlton was in the second vehicle.
Both Anderson and Voisine were taken to the Houlton Regional Hospital, but no life threatening injuries were reported, according to police.
Deputies from the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office accident reconstruction team responded to help with the investigation.
Anderson was taken to the Aroostook County Jail, and the incident remains under investigation, police said.
