Marina Squerciati is just like Us: She’s been planning her Chicago P.D. character Kim Burgess’ dream wedding since she got engaged during season 11.
“I know that [Burgess’ daughter] Makayla really wants it to be in Belize,” Squerciati, 40, exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this month. “Marina Squerciati would like it to be in Belize or any oceanfront property.”
The actress, who has played Burgess since season 1 in 2014, confessed that she hasn’t been “told anything” except that showrunner Gwen Sigan “does not know yet” how and where Burgess and Adam Ruzek (Patrick Flueger) will get hitched.
Squerciati, meanwhile, has begun creating her own vision board for Burzek’s special day. “I’ve recently liked [designer] Samantha Sleeper wedding dresses and my algorithm on Instagram is all screwed up,” she told Us, adding with a laugh, “Instagram thinks I’m getting married!”

She revealed the one thing she really wants is a “kick-ass wedding dress” for the nuptials, which Sigan previously teased could take place in season 12.
Burgess and Ruzek have had an on-off romance since season 1. The pair were engaged twice before Ruzek asked for her hand a third time during season 11. Since then, fans have been wondering how they’ll say “I do.”
Flueger, for his part, exclusively told Us in September that it’s “not really our show [style]” to have a big wedding. “I don’t know how you squeeze that into our show. It feels like it’s probably gonna be more suggested than it is something you’re gonna see on screen,” he explained.
The actor, 40, noted that Ruzek would probably tell Burgess, “Should we just go to the courthouse? Let’s just keep it simple. I don’t need the whole to-do. I just wanna be with you.”
Squerciati, however, doesn’t want something off camera or at a courthouse. “I want the white dress moment. Burgess needs a white dress,” she insisted. “Burgess is definitely picking dahlias and, like, centerpieces with candles. Come on, give the girl a moment!”

While Burgess and Ruzek’s wedding details are still unknown, Squerciati told Us that the couple are solid even after Burgess made detective — and added another responsibility to her plate — on the November 6 episode.
“I don’t think that there has been any, like, poison dart that hasn’t been thrown into their relationship,” she said. “There’s been cheating, there’s been broken engagements. We’ve both been shot. I think we’ve both been kidnapped.”
Squerciati explained that “the fact that they’re in a really good place and supportive place, and have a good marriage extensively and a kid [is] nice, and the fans deserve it.”
She confessed, “Normally, even-steven is boring TV, but I think they have such a great relationship. It’s really not. They’ve been through so much that we deserve it.”
Chicago P.D. airs on NBC Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET.
