Aryssa Mahrt scored a goal and assisted on two others to carry the University of Wisconsin women’s soccer team to a 3-1 win over the University of Maine in an NCAA tournament game Friday night in Madison, Wisconsin.
Wisconsin, seeded 5th, improved to 10-5-4 on the season with the win and advanced to face Virginia, a 2-1 winner over Princeton.
The Black Bears finished the season with a 13-2-3 record.
Mahrt scored off a Maia Richters assist just 1:06 into the game to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead. Wisconsin pushed the lead to 2-0 at the 3:27 mark of the first half when Ashley Martinez scored off a Mahrt assist.
The Black Bears countered with a goal by Lara Kirkby off a Kristina Kelly assist at the 46:17 mark of the second half. But the Badgers iced the game on a goal by Erin Connolly off a Mahrt assist at the 56:54 mark.
