Several apartment units were consumed by fire in a blaze at a Wells apartment complex on Monday evening.
The fire at the Sanford Road apartment complex broke out around 7:39 a.m. Monday, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss. None of the residents were seriously injured in the fire.
According to an investigation by the fire marshal’s office, the fire likely started outside when burning material was not properly snuffed out before being disposed of.
Fire danger remains moderately to extremely high across much of Maine, with numerous fire departments warning to avoid burning, and dispose of burning materials properly, to prevent errant sparks from spreading.
