An Acton man has died after he was seriously injured fighting an outdoor fire on Sunday.
Volney Spalding, 64, was transported via LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland after officials were called to his 151 Ice Road residence at around 10:56 a.m., according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
Spalding received severe burns to his upper body while attempting to douse the fire, which appeared to have started outdoors. A shed and nearby woods were damaged by the Sunday fire.
On Wednesday, Spalding died at Maine Medical Center, according to Moss. His body will be transported to the Maine medical examiner’s office, where an autopsy will be conducted.
