FREEPORT, Maine – A popular and historic restaurant in Freeport is closing its doors.
The owner, Tom Hincks, says Saturday night’s last call at Jameson Tavern will be its last.
Hincks says the lease was up and he couldn’t afford the new rent on top of other expenses.
Jameson Tavern has been in the same spot in Freeport for 225 years.
It’s believed to be the location where Maine leaders signed the documents to secede from Massachusetts in 1820.
Hincks says he still owns the rights to the “Jameson Tavern” name, and he has plans to possibly open a new location in Windham.
