The first plowable snow of the season is arriving just in time for Thanksgiving. Prepare for messy and slippery travel conditions for much of Maine during the latter half of the day.
Notable timeframes include Thursday evening and night. The storm, thankfully, will wrap up Thursday night with cooler weather approaching this weekend.
First, let’s get into the details.
Our storm gets going between 9 a.m. and noon. It will start off as rain along the coastline as well as both rain and snow inland.
The heaviest and worst travel will be between 1 and 8 p.m. Be very mindful if you are traveling in Maine.
The storm will end between 9 p.m. and midnight as snow for most. Friday looks much better.
As it goes for snow, look for a coating to 2 inches along the coastline with higher amounts in the mountains (6-10 inches).
The storm will overtake New England for all of Thursday.
Below is where we’ll begin.
Mainers in southern Maine and along the coastline will begin as rain with inland locations, both rain and snow.
By noontime, look for heavy rain in southern New Hampshire and beginning in southern Maine. Heavy snow is moving into the foothills of western Maine, where temperatures are closer to that freezing mark.
A defined rain-snow line will build and set-up on the west side of the Interstate 95 corridor.
Between 1 and 8 p.m. will be our worst travel times.
Look for downpours along the coast with heavy snow on the western side of I-95.
Around 6 or 7 p.m. is when we will see a transition from rain to wet snow along the coastline.
Temps will begin to drop to below freezing and it will be dark, so keep that in mind when traveling.
The storm will begin to wrap up at 9 p.m., being mostly out by midnight.
Rain totals along the coast will range between 1 and 1.25 inches.
Come the weekend, look for calmer yet cooler conditions.
Friday looks much better with clear conditions which is good for travel. Highs will hang out in the low 40s and it will be a little breezy.
Mid-winter cold temperatures will be the main weather story next late this weekend and through next week. Stay tuned.
