Senior guard Quion Burns scored a team-high 21 points on 8-for-9 shooting from the field and backcourt mate Kellen Tynes added 19 points and 8 assists to power the University of Maine men’s basketball team to a 71-66 win over the U.S. Naval Academy in the Cathedral Classic round-robin tournament at the Palestra in Philadelphia on Sunday.
The win improved the Black Bears’ record to 5-4 on the season.
Navy (3-6) was led by center Aidan Kehoe’s 16 points and 12 rebounds. Junior guard Jinwoo Kim hit for 13 points for the Midshipmen.
Burns erupted for 19 points in the second half, hitting all 7 of his shots, as UMaine turned a 33-28 halftime deficit into a 63-50 lead with 7:36 left in the game then held on down the stretch.
Senior guard A.J. Lopez contributed 10 points for the Black Bears.
UMaine shot 53 percent from the field for the game, including 33 percent on 3-point shots (4-for-12).
