Bridget Moynahan is pleasantly surprised by Sex and the City fans supporting her character Natasha after years of her voicing their dislike.
“Over the years, people have found when they first saw it, they were hating on Natasha. And as they grew up, they’re like, ‘We were all Carrie at the time, but we should have been supporting Natasha,’” Moynahan, 53, told Swooon on Sunday, December 1. “I think that’s just interesting that fans grew with the show and matured with the show.”
The actress praised the evolution, adding, “I think that’s what’s so great about the show coming back in a new form is that they’ve matured. And now you have a whole new set of fans coming up, and it’s just nice to see how it keeps growing.”
Moynahan also weighed in on Natasha being mentioned on Max’s Sex and the City spinoff, And Just Like That. In response to a question about why Big left $1 million to ex-wife Natasha in his will, Moynahan replied, “I don’t know. I suppose she probably put it towards the kids’ education.”
‘Sex and the City’ Drama Through the Years: A Timeline
Sex and the City premiered in 1998 and focused on Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) dating life in New York City. Her friends Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) each played a large role in the series.
After Sex and the City premiered on HBO, the show expanded into two movies and a prequel titled The Carrie Diaries aired on The CW. Everyone but Cattrall, 68, reprised their roles when And Just Like That premiered on Max in December 2021.
Moynahan, for her part, made an appearance on And Just Like That but most of her focus has remained on CBS’ hit series Blue Bloods, where she has starred as Erin Reagan since 2010. Before the police drama comes to an end later this month, Moynahan reflected on the show’s legacy.
“We had crew members that started with us on day one on the pilot who carried all the way to the last scene of the 14th, 15th season,” she said at a panel in October. “And we all grew with them. We’ve had babies, we’ve gotten divorced, we’ve gotten married, we’ve had births, deaths, everything. And we’ve done it together.”
And Just Like That’s Biggest Scandals: Shocking Death and Departures
Moynahan previously confirmed that the series finale will include one last Reagan family meal together, which has been a staple since the show premiered.
“There’s some nice revelations in that last episode of season 14 that wrap up at that family dinner,” she told Entertainment Weekly in September. “For us to go out on such a special family dinner on our last episode, I think will resonate with the fans. Fans will really get a kick out of some of ’em. And then there might be a surprise that isn’t so hopeful.”
Blue Bloods 14th and final season continues on CBS Fridays at 10 p.m. ET.
