Sunday brings the second snowstorm within a week for much of Maine, although today’s precipitation shouldn’t be as wet as the last storm that swept across the state.
The National Weather Service estimates that Maine’s central highlands and Penobscot Valley, along with Down East and parts of eastern Maine will see anywhere between 3 and 5 inches of snow fall before 1 p.m. this afternoon.
That snow could cause slippery traveling conditions.
Sunday’s winter weather advisory has also been issued for Waldo, Lincoln and Knox counties, with total snow accumulation of around 4 inches by 1 p.m. this afternoon, according to the Gray NWS office.
Temperatures will remain in the mid 40s to the south, with highs in the mid 30s through the northern and eastern regions. Overnight temperatures will drop to a few degrees below freezing, although The County will likely see overnight temperatures in the teens.
Monday will see temperatures across most of the state rise to the mid to high 40s, accompanied by intermittent snow and rain through the afternoon. Traveling conditions will remain slippery.
Conditions are expected to remain rainy through Wednesday, with high temperatures in the mid 40s to the north and low to mid 50s in southern regions.
