A budget airline will offer nonstop flights from Maine to Connecticut next spring.
Beginning May 22, 2025, Avelo Airlines will fly from Portland International Jetport to Tweed-New Haven Airport on Thursdays and Sundays, the airline announced Monday.
“We are excited to welcome Avelo Airlines to our Jetport lineup. This new service will provide easy access between New Haven and Portland making it very easy to connect with family and friends this coming summer,” Paul Bradbury, the jetport’s director, said in a statement.
It’s the latest addition at the Portland airport. This year Breeze Airways announced new flights from Portland to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; White Plains, New York; and Sarasota, Florida. JetBlue also announced new flights to Orlando, Florida, while Frontier Airlines added Cincinnati to its offerings out of Portland.
The Portland airport is the state’s busiest. It saw record traffic in 2019, when more than 2.18 million traveled through there. But that traffic took a big hit in 2020 amid the global pandemic, with passengers traveling through the jetport falling to 792,571, the lowest than at any point in the past 15 years. That rebounded to 2.21 million last year, according to data posted on the Portland International Jetport’s website.
