A house fire in Brooklin claimed the lives of 16 dogs late last week.
The fire broke out about 4:17 p.m. Friday on Bay Road home, Brooklin Assistant Fire Chief Tom Morris told the Ellsworth American.
When crews arrived at the scene, they found the home fully engulfed in flames, according to the American. Firefighters were unable to enter the home to battle the blaze.
During the battle, firefighters had to contend with cold temperatures and strong winds. Crews from Brooklin and five other communities fought the flames.
The fire flared up again Saturday morning, bringing firefighters back to the location, the newspaper reported.
No one was in the home at the time of the fire, but 16 dogs that were there died in the blaze, according to the American.
Because of the extensive damage, it’s likely the cause will remain unknown.
