Taylor Swift really does think of everything — and her surprise songs prove it.
The 34-year-old singer took her final Eras Tour bow on Sunday, December 8, but not before singing a The Tortured Poets Department song with very special meaning. While performing her last concert in Vancouver on Sunday, Swift sat at her piano for a mashup of “Long Live/New Year’s Day/The Manuscript.”
Swifties have speculated the significance of these three songs.
“Long Live” from Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) has always been a song for the fans and those who supported her along the way.
“This song for me is like looking at a photo album of all the award shows, and all the stadium shows, and all the hands in the air in the crowd,” she shared in a past message on her website. “It’s sort of the first love song that I’ve written to my team.”
Taylor Swift Has 1 Last Surprise at Her Final ‘Eras Tour’ Concert
It seems fitting that Swift went with this tune for the final Eras Tour date. She then started singing the quiet ballad “New Year’s Day” which is the final song on her Reputation album. Fans have been waiting for an announcement about the Reputation (Taylor’s Version) rerecord and think this is a message that it’s coming soon.
Finally, Swift performed “The Manuscript” from her most recent album The Tortured Poets Department, which was released this past April. This track acts as the final song on the 31-song record, making it the last song in her current discography.
Swift kicked off her Eras Tour in March 2023 with the first leg taking place in the United States. She then went to South America, Australia, Asia and Europe before returning for a final leg in the U.S. once again. The last batch of Eras Tour shows kicked off at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on October 18.
During that first show back in America, Swift opted to perform “Tim McGraw” from her self-titled debut album as one of the surprise songs. This was the first song Swift released as a single in 2006.
“Wait I just realized that the first surprise song was ‘Tim McGraw’ (first song in her discography) and the last surprise song is ‘The Manuscript’ (last song in her discography),” one of Swift’s fans shared via X on Sunday.
