BANGOR – The holiday season is in full swing, and Northern Light Acadia Hospital wants to remind the community about the importance of managing depression during the holiday season.
“The holidays can be a challenging time for many people, especially those dealing with mood issues, especially depression,” says Anthony Ng, MD DFAPA, medical director, Community Services, Northern Light Acadia Hospital. “It’s important to take care of yourself and seek support if you need it.”
Here are some tips for managing depression during the holidays:
- Set realistic expectations: Don’t try to do too much or expect everything to be perfect.
- Make time for self-care: Take time to do things you enjoy and that help you relax.
- Connect with others: Spend time with loved ones or consider volunteering to help others.
- Seek professional help: If you’re struggling, don’t hesitate to reach out to a mental health professional.
“Remember, you’re not alone,” says Dr. Ng. “There are resources and support available to help you through this time.”
