Starbucks workers in Waterville have voted to unionize.
On Wednesday night, baristas voted nine to one to join Starbucks Workers United.
This makes the Waterville Commons the third Starbucks store in Maine to unionize.
The Starbucks Workers United authorized a strike, if necessary, on Friday as they continue to negotiate fair wages and better staffing.
Currently, the organization represents more than 5,000 Starbucks stores nationwide.
A Starbucks in Biddeford was the first in Maine to unionize in July 2022.
Employees at the Starbucks on Middle Street in Portland voted to unionize in October 2022. A month later, the company announced the store would be closing in December 2022.
At the time, the company promised to negotiate a contract with the union but instead closed the location.
