Ahead of Christmas, I sit here in my warm, cozy home, close to my family. Our tree is decorated with lights and ornaments from decades past, each reminding us of our many years of connection. My children and grandchildren thrive, and I am grateful. Yet, my heart is in Palestine, where families like my own suffer daily — and nightly — from threat, loss, homelessness, cold, hunger and a wretched knowledge that they cannot protect their children.
I believe my government is largely responsible for this, offering unending political support, and yes, the weapons that kill children — the weapons that kill and maim children and mothers like myself. Is Christmas to be a time of sharing hope? I pray.
