A downtown Bangor New Year’s Eve tradition will again move to a new location this year.
A large beachball covered in string lights will drop from the Pickering Square Parking Garage in downtown Bangor to ring in 2025, the Downtown Bangor Partnership, a local nonprofit responsible for organizing the event, announced on Thursday.
Attendees can enjoy food and drink specials, music, dancing and other events throughout downtown Bangor on New Year’s Eve before gathering in Pickering Square just before midnight to watch the ball drop, according to the organization.
Bangor-based DJ ICE GHO$T will perform before and after the countdown and confetti cannons, provided by Waterfront Concerts, will fire water-soluble confetti, the announcement said.
The Law Office of Hunter Tzovarras is sponsoring the event.
Last year, the ball was dropped off the roof of 6 Central St., home of Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness, for the first time.
For 15 years before that, John Dobbs, owner of Paddy Murphy’s in downtown Bangor, launched the beach ball off the roof of his restaurant to ring in each new year.
This year, the Bangor Public Library and the Maine Discovery Museum will offer family-friendly events earlier in the day followed by late-night events at several local bars, restaurants and other venues. For more information, visit downtownbangor.com.
