A woman accused of killing a 14-year-old boy in Sidney made her first court appearance on Friday.
Superior Court Justice Daniel Mitchell ordered a psychiatric evaluation for Megan McDonald, 39, who is being held without bail.
McDonald was arrested on Dec. 20 and charged with murder.
Police said that at around 5:30 a.m. that day, McDonald drove more than 40 miles from Sidney to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office in Auburn, where she reported an incident had happened at her home in Sidney.
When police arrived, they found the body of a 14-year-old boy outside the home. An autopsy found the teen had died from a combination of asphyxiation, manual strangulation and sharp force injury.
Later that afternoon, McDonald was arrested and charged with murder. Police have not identified the victim.
In court, McDonald acknowledged that she understood the charges being brought against her.
She is being held without bail at the Kennebec County Jail until her next hearing.
