Katie reshared Madeline’s post via her Instagram Stories Sunday and wrote, “Truly speechless.” She also reshared a post from the North American Hockey League team the Philadelphia Rebels celebrating baby Tripp’s arrival. (Matthew, who was 29, was the team’s former assistant coach.)
“Tripp Matthew ,” Madeline wrote via Instagram on Sunday, welcoming the newborn. “Mommy & Daddy’s world.” The post included a snap of Madeline holding the newborn’s tiny hand, alongside a small sign that reads, “He’s here.” She also tagged Matthew in the post.
Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau’s Brother-in-Law Pays Tribute: ‘I Loved You’
Matthew and his brother, NHL star Johnny (who was 31), were struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver while biking near their New Jersey hometown on August 29, just one day before Katie’s planned wedding. The brothers were expected to be groomsmen in the ceremony.
According to Katie’s wedding website, she and her fiancé, Devin Joyce, will now tie the knot on July 11, 2025, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Shortly after her brothers’ deaths, Katie reflected on finding out about the news as she was making final preparations to walk down the aisle.
“That day,” Katie wrote via Instagram on September 5. “Right in the middle of getting ready for the best day of my life, the unthinkable happens that will change my life forever. I remember a week ago being in the hotel sitting with family and texting Devin about how we forgot to practice our dip. To think that was our biggest worry at this moment when in just a split second and a phone call later our lives would forever change.”
