FALMOUTH – As part of its ongoing efforts to support critical public health and environmental sustainability initiatives, OceanView at Falmouth is proud to announce a sponsorship for Partners for World Health, in conjunction with the nonprofit organization’s 15th anniversary.
Partners for World Health, which is based in Portland, collects surplus medical supplies and equipment and redistributes them to communities in need all over the globe. In addition to providing essential healthcare resources to the developing world, their work diverts millions of pounds of discarded materials from landfills.
“We’re so proud to support Partners for World Health’s work to improve global health while reducing environmental impact,” said Shireen Shahawy, director of sales and marketing for OceanView at Falmouth. “This sponsorship is a natural extension of our own commitment to environmental sustainability and to helping people live healthier lives.”
Since 2009, Partners for World Health has sent 133 container shipments valued at over $42 million to 36 countries and diverted more than 3 million pounds of medical equipment and supplies from landfills. What’s more, Partners for World Health has made low, or no-cost supplies available to more than 7,000 people in Maine and New Hampshire. The organization also provided primary care, education, and training to over 25,000 people worldwide through 44 mission trips.
“Support like this from OceanView at Falmouth translates into direct help to people near and far, and it’s critical to sustaining our existing work and advancing our mission,” said Paul Golding, director of advancement for Partners for World Health. “OceanView’s support speaks volumes about how committed Mainers are to helping people in Maine and all around the world.”
Judith Parkhill, chair of Partners for World Health’s Board of Directors, and a resident of OceanView at Falmouth, said that she is proud to be a part of a community that is dedicated to improving the lives of those in need at both local and global levels, and a community that is a model for sustainability practices. “The commitment among residents and leadership to the environment and to giving back, is such a strong thread of our social fabric” she said. “They are just two of the many qualities that make this community so special.”
