Officials believe that icy conditions led to the circumstances of a fatal crash on Route 1 early Tuesday morning.
According to the Falmouth Police Department, a vehicle crashed into a light pole at 309 U.S. Route 1 at around 2:20 a.m. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when officials responded to the crash site.
One person inside the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Their body has been transported to the Maine medical examiner’s office, where an autopsy will be done to determine their identity and cause of death.
Officials continue to investigate the crash scene, but believe that icy road conditions were a contributing factor.
