Hollywood mourned many celebrities in 2024, including Shannen Doherty and Liam Payne.
Us Weekly confirmed Doherty’s death on July 14. The Beverly Hills, 90210 star first battled breast cancer from 2015 to 2017, sharing nearly three years later that it had returned. In 2023, Doherty shared that her stage 4 breast cancer had spread to her brain and bones.
“I don’t want to die,” Doherty told People in November 2023. “I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better.”
The Charmed star wasn’t the only star gone too soon. Payne’s death also left Hollywood reeling. The singer fell from a third-floor hotel room balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16. He was 31 and is survived by son Bear, 7, whom he shared with Cheryl Cole.
In response to his passing, Payne’s former One Direction bandmates (Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson) released a joint statement: “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.”
