The former Nordic Heritage Outdoor Center in Presque Isle is on the market for $2.9 million.
The 750-acre parcel, with a lodge, visitor center, biathlon range and miles of trails, is listed for sale at RE/MAX County of Presque Isle.
Opened in 2000, the center closed on Dec. 1. Its owners, the Libra Foundation of South Portland and Pineland Farms of New Gloucester, announced in November their plans to end a contract with the city of Presque Isle, whose recreation department was operating the facility. The closure put an end to nearly 25 years of biathlon, school ski meets and community skiing, hiking and mountain biking.
Another listing appears on the website Realtor.com, which describes the property as a 5-bedroom home.
The local RE/MAX listing describes the facility as perfect for year-round recreation and events.
“Nestled in nature’s embrace, this property features a stunning 7,000 sq ft lodge, complete with a commercial kitchen, a grand stone fireplace, and vaulted ceilings that create a warm and inviting atmosphere,” the listing states.
Though the group Friends of the Nordic Heritage Center formed when the closure was announced to try to keep the facility open, members have not specified a solution or a plan to try to purchase the venue.
