New video shows the moment gunshots erupted as a Maine man was killed by police in Westbrook.
The shooting happened after police got a domestic violence disturbance call to a home on Arlington Avenue in Westbrook on Nov. 30.
When officers arrived, they found Ryan Nichols of Westbrook.
Westbrook police said that officers tried to arrest Nichols, but he allegedly resisted and assaulted the officers.
Police said Nichols then ran to a neighbor’s house and allegedly armed himself with what police called an unspecified “metal object” and ran toward the officers.
That’s when two Westbrook officers, Sgt. Brian Grasser and Officer Maxwell Sawyer, shot Nichols.
He died at the scene.
Both officers were placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure, while the Maine attorney general’s office investigates the shooting.
