In 2024 BDN readers in 256 towns from all 16 Maine counties and in 26 states together raised $115,000 to support the Bangor Daily News’ mission of local journalism.
We could not have done this work without your support, and we deeply appreciate these contributions.
Because you value your community, Maine families are better served with the information they need to navigate local life.
We are humbled by the donations of our readers, and will work every day in 2025 to bring you stories about your community and your state that matter to you.
One of our favorite things about fundraising campaigns is hearing from readers about what inspires them to contribute. Here are just a few of the comments that made us smile.
“I love my hometown of Bangor, and I think good information is important to a thriving community.” – Ashley in Milford
“I depend on the BDN for accurate and unbiased coverage of Maine news and value its regular features (especially Birding in Maine) and investigative reports.” – Alan in Lubec
“The excellent investigative reporting that exposed the white supremacist plans to build a training center in Springfield, ME, and ultimately led to their leaving Maine. I also enjoy the outdoors articles and columns.” – Gretchen in Belfast
“BDN does a great job of covering local news. Coverage is thorough and objective. That’s more than you get from some national media.” – Michael in Hermon
“I have been a journalist at several very good regional and national newspapers. I know what a really good newspaper is. The Bangor Daily News is one. Maine, you don’t know how lucky you are!” – Don in New York
The Bangor Daily News community is essential to protecting BDN investigative, accountability and community journalism. Thank you.
