A 3-year-old died Sunday after wandering away from the family home in Corinna.
The boy’s aunt called 911 about 8:28 a.m. to report that her nephew was missing from the Exeter Road home, according to Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
His father later found him in the snow a ways away from the home, Moss said Monday afternoon.
The boy succumbed to injuries that Moss said were consistent with exposure to the elements.
The boy’s body was taken to the Maine medical examiner’s office in Augusta, where an autopsy will determine his cause and manner of death.
The Maine State Police believe this was an isolated incident, according to Moss.
No additional information was immediately available.
