A man allegedly shot his stepbrother in South Portland on Tuesday evening.
John Williams, 41, has been charged with elevated aggravated assault, reckless conduct and assault, according to Shara Dee, a spokesperson for the city of South Portland.
Williams allegedly shot his 30-year-old stepbrother in the leg about 4 p.m. on Westbrook Street.
When police arrived, officers applied a tourniquet to his leg before he was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he underwent surgery for serious but not life-threatening injuries.
He is expected to survive.
Williams was taken to the Cumberland County Jail.
