The U.S. Coast Guard and other rescue agencies are searching for a missing 34-foot scallop boat, Sudden Impact, off the coast of Cutler.
At around 5 p.m. on Saturday, the Coast Guard received a report that two fishermen aboard a scallop vessel had become unreachable and that the boat had not returned to its mooring in South Addison, according to a news release.
The boat had left from Cobscook Bay State Park at approximately 5 a.m. that same day. After reporting rough seas, the crew had planned to seek refuge in Cutler, but never arrived.
The Coast Guard issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched rescue boats from its Eastport and Jonesport stations, as well as an HC-144 aircraft from its station in Cape Code and and a helicopter from the Canadian Coast Guard Saturday night.
The Coast Guard is coordinating the search which includes rescue boats and aircrafts from multiple Coast Guard units, Maine Marine Patrol, Canadian Coast Guard, and the Maine Forestry Service.
Anyone with information should contact the Coast Guard’s northern New England sector office at 833-449-2407.
