A man was flown to a Bangor hospital on Thursday after he crashed deep into the woods near East Millinocket.
The man, whose identity wasn’t released, was driving in the area of Medway and Grindstone roads in Medway about 11 p.m. when he went off the road, according to the East Millinocket Police Department.
When police arrived, officers could see signs of a crash but not a vehicle.
Soon officers found the vehicle several hundred feet into the woods. The driver apparently went airborne for more than 100 feet before the vehicle came to a rest in the woods.
Firefighters extricated the trapped driver, who sustained serious injuries. He was flown to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
The crash remains under investigation, but police said Friday evening that speed and alcohol appear to be factors.
No additional information was released.
