Firefighters on Monday afternoon put out a fire at a scrapyard in Carmel.
The fire was reported at 1:16 p.m. at 235 Main Road. Ideal Recycling Inc. is located at that address.
When firefighters arrived, employees of the facility were trying to remove materials that weren’t on fire from a large burning pile of mixed scrap, Hermon Fire Chief Cody Sullivan said.
They continued to separate the materials as firefighters aimed hoses at the fire.
Sullivan described the pile as containing vehicles and other items with flammable materials in addition to metal.
“Anything with metal also has plastic components,” he said.
No one was injured and no structures were threatened, he said. He did not know the cause of the fire.
