Snow will rapidly move into Maine later Thursday morning, and heavy snowfall is expected Thursday afternoon with very messy travel conditions across the state.
More winter storms are in the pipeline for this weekend and next week.
Timing of snow
Snow arrives late morning for most of Maine, quickly picking up in intensity. Heavy snowfall is likely early to mid-afternoon, gradually tapering off heading into the evening.
Snow will likely end as some freezing drizzle or sleet, an icy glaze is likely on top of the snow. All precipitation should be mostly over by 9 p.m.
Totals

A widespread 3-6 inches of snow is expected across most of western, southern and central Maine.
Quiet weather returns Friday, but a snow shower is still possible with blustery winds and highs around 32 degrees.
Next storm
A more significant storm is on the way for the weekend.
Timing
Snow will begin Saturday night around midnight. It will continue through Sunday morning and then will taper off through Sunday afternoon.
Snow looks heaviest in the early morning hours Sunday, and especially in southern Maine.
Totals

An early look at totals hints at half foot to a foot for southern Maine with lesser amounts as you head farther north.
Stay tuned as it’s still a little early to nail down snow totals.
The extremely active snowy pattern shows no signs of stopping next week. More snow is likely Tuesday night into Wednesday, although the storm looks to track too far away for a significant snowfall, so light amounts are favored at this point.
Another storm is brewing for late week in the Valentine’s Day time frame. This one has the potential to be significant, so keep checking back on the forecast through the next week.
