
Lewiston, Ellsworth and Lisbon/St. Dom’s repeated as state cheerleading champions at the Augusta Civic Center on Saturday.
It was Ellsworth’s third straight Class B championship and Lewiston’s second consecutive Class A crown and third in four years.
It was the fourth Class C title in a row for Lisbon, with St. Dom’s of Auburn being part of its cooperative team for the last three.
Ellsworth registered a score of 88.3 points, Gray-New Gloucester finished second with 82.7 points and Hermon completed the top three with 78.2 points.
Rounding out the top 10 were Medomak Valley of Waldoboro (75.8), Gardiner/Hall-Dale (69.5), Winslow (69), Lawrence of Fairfield (68.7), Poland (66.1), Mount Desert Island (63.1) and Waterville/Messaslonskee of Oakland (59.9).
Completing the field were Old Town (59.3), Leavitt of Turner (58.6), Oceanside of Rockland (58.4), Morse of Bath/Wiscasset/Mt. Ararat of Topsham (49.3), Mt. Blue of Farmington (47.1) and Erskine Academy of South China (44.2).
Melanie Fox and Kat Archer are the co-coaches of the Ellsworth Eagles, and the cheerleaders were seniors Calie Reece and Olivia Leighton; juniors Noelle Towne, Kaylee Bockus, Whitney Jordan, Lily Alley, Molly Smith and Ally Brown; sophomores Katie Clark and Grace Robinson; and freshmen Callie Clough, Keira Crawford, Logan Flewelling and Brooklyn Burke.
In A, Lewiston tallied a score of 92.6 to edge Oxford Hills of South Paris by 1.6 points. Bangor was third with 84.4 points and completing the top 10 were Scarborough (83.2), Thornton Academy of Saco (78.2), Bonny Eagle of Buxton (78.1), Hampden Academy (75.2), Noble of North Berwick (74.8), Gorham (74.75) and Kennebunk (66.75).
The other participants were Brewer (65.35), Skowhegan (63.5), Windham (59.4), Massabesic of Waterboro (56.15) and Edward Little of Auburn (50.2).
It was Lewiston’s ninth state title in 15 years.
Lewiston was coached by Matt Hanley with assistant Torey Weldon. The cheerleaders were seniors Phoenix Beaulieu, Fiona Hutchinson and Aubrey Wood; juniors Myla Physic and Emma Mills; sophomores Isabella Caldeira and Ella Mercier; and freshmen Marina Anderson, Ashley Cloutier, Adreanah Duval, Adalynn Martin, Emily O’Donnell and Paige Taylor.
In Class C, Lisbon/St.Dom’s posted a score of 80.5 points, 7.4 points better than runner-up Bucksport.
It was Lisbon’s seventh state championship in 11 years.
Houlton/Greater Houlton Christian Academy and Dexter tied for third with 72.75 points and completing the top five was Central of Corinth (69.2).
Orono was sixth with 69 points followed by Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln (61.5), Central Aroostook of Mars Hill (59.3), Mountain Valley of Rumford (54.4), Calais (51.9), Sacopee Valley of South Hiram (48.55), Bangor Christian/Penobscot Christian (48.4), Woodland (46.2), Monmouth Academy (45.6), Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft (35.8) and Penobscot Valley of Howland (34.3).
The Lisbon/St. Dom’s squad, led by head coach Nicole Adams and assistant Sydney Austin, featured seniors Riley Hoyle, Nevaeh Fortin, Mackenzie Theriault and Delina Daigle; juniors Kyle Berube, Payton Hoyle, Brady Knight, Ava Kottmann, Reese Kulow, Allvia Saunders, Ella Morales and Sela Russell; sophomores Emma Bourgoin; and freshmen Gabby Adams, Ella Charest, Brynn Chase, Rilynn Daigle, Maddie Earle, Ava Francis, Makenzie Ranta and Lauren Vella.
