The recent BDN article on Doug Burgum, the new secretary of the Interior Department, is another blatant example of the fact corporations have captured our democracy. I would love to blame Republicans and their new president for this problem but then I would have to ignore the fact that many Democrats like Chuck Schumer and Cory Booker are cozy with Wall Street. This has always been a problem with our democracy but it reached new heights with the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United that said corporations are essentially people.
This time the stakes are so much higher. The petroleum industry has never had the kind of influence they have now and they seem hellbent to burn every drop of their product.
The recent California fires were one of the largest natural disasters in the country’s history and NOAA has documented that their occurrence is not just increasing it’s accelerating!
Wake up folks, our grandchildren are being sacrificed on the altar of greed. Demand and work for a transition to wind and solar now!
