Construction will reduce southbound traffic on Interstate 95 in Bangor to a single lane on Wednesday.
The Maine Department of Transportation will close one lane of the highway where it passes over Broadway from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to set up equipment and protect workers, according to MDOT. As a result, only one lane will remain open to traffic.
The northbound traffic will not be affected.
The work is part of an ongoing $30.6 million project to replace bridges and enhance intersections, started in 2023 and expected to wrap up in late 2026.
In recent years other I-95 bridges in Bangor have been replaced, including the Ohio Street bridge in 2020 and the Union Street bridge in 2016.
The 152-foot steel girder bridge over Broadway, built in 1960, is crossed about 50,000 times daily and is in “poor condition,” transportation officials have told the Bangor Daily News.
