What stood out for me in President Donald Trump’s speech to Congress last week was the spectacle of Vice President JD Vance and House Speaker Mike Johnson behind the president, smirking at his list of supposedly wasteful spending discovered by DOGE. They reminded me of the junior high school kids who tag along behind the school bully.
“Transgender mice,” the bully says. Smirk, smirk. It is “transgenic,” mice with added human genes for cancer research. That is just one example. Maybe just a stupid mistake instead of a lie, but designed to distract us from the truth.
The truth is that Trump and Elon Musk are gutting government programs that people depend on. They are planning to cut Medicaid (MaineCare in this state). Musk just called Social Security the biggest Ponzi scheme as he starts crippling the Social Security Administration.
Why make cuts to necessary programs? Speaker Johnson has told us why. It is to allow them to make huge tax cuts for people like Musk.
Anyone who still thinks Trump is working for us had better start paying attention before it is too late. One thing Trump didn’t brag about in his speech was the money he has made this year from his crypto currency schemes. Somehow this is supposed to be OK? The president profits from schemes that the government is responsible for regulating?
Is Sen. Susan Collins paying attention?
