BANGOR — No child should grieve alone. To support young people navigating loss in the community, Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center is launching Beacons for Kids, a youth grief support program beginning Wednesday, April 2 at All Souls Congregational Church, 10 Broadway in Bangor.
The free, eight-week program is designed for young people aged 8 to 17 and their families. Sessions take place on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and will help participants explore common themes of grief, develop coping mechanisms, and find connection through shared experiences. This program also supports caregivers; parents and guardians will have the opportunity to meet in a separate group with their peers.
“By offering grief support for both young people and their caregivers, we hope to foster healing for entire families,” says Stacey Coventry, director, Community Engagement, Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. “We envision this program as a safe, compassionate way for individuals to express their grief, develop resilience and feel less alone in their journey,”
Coventry will co-facilitate the program with Rebekah Timms, a Spiritual Care volunteer at the medical center and pastor at All Souls, who helped develop the program. Timms shares, “All Souls Congregation supports individuals and families through life’s challenges, offering resources for healing, connection and growth, so this program is a perfect fit for our mission.”
Registration is open until April 9. To sign up or learn more, contact Timms at 207.944.0056 or rtimms@allsouls.com.
