
Maine has recorded its first child death from influenza this season.
The child, who tested positive for influenza B, died on March 19, according to an advisory from Isaac Benowitz, the state epidemiologist.
It’s the first child death from the flu so far this season. No additional details about that death have been released.
There were nine flu deaths in total for the week ending March 22, bringing the toll for this season to 86, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
Additionally, there have been a total of 1,290 hospitalizations associated with the flu.
There has been a sustained decrease in flu activity in all Maine counties, except for Sagadahoc, where it plateaued for the week ending March 22, according to the Maine CDC’s latest flu surveillance report.
