Chelsea pair Mason Mount and Jorginho played a prank on Romelu Lukaku recently.
Lukaku turned 29 on Friday the 13th of May, a fact that was overshadowed somewhat by comments that emerged from the striker’s agent on the day.
The Belgian has had a fairly tough time back at Stamford Bridge this season. However, despite being something of a bit-part player for the Blues, Lukaku is still the club’s top scorer in all competitions, having netted 15 in 45 outings, two more than both Kai Havertz and Mason Mount.
And, much like Tammy Abraham who was frozen out by Thomas Tuchel despite being the club’s top scorer last term, Lukaku’s future has been called into question of late.
And that speculation has only increased this week due to comments from Lukaku’s agent:
“I’m not the one to discuss technical choices, but it is obvious that there was a problem,” Federico Pastorello said. “The numbers, however, must be weighted: he is the best scorer of the team this season, even with a lower playing time compared to his teammates.
“The situation must be carefully evaluated, now there’s a Champions League spot to secure, and the Fa Cup final: Romelu is totally focused on that, we have not talked about anything else”.
“It’s nonsense to speculate on negotiations: Chelsea have just defined the takeover of the club, we still don’t know our new interlocutors, let alone if we can hypothesize talks with Inter, AC Milan or whatever. We have to be patient and wait. ”
Despite said comments, spirits appear to be high in the Chelsea camp.
As per football.london: “Jorginho and Mount hatched a plan of how to make Lukaku’s birthday a memorable one. With the England ace acting as a cameraman, Jorginho, one of Chelsea’s calmest figures on the field, approached Lukaku like a mischievous child and began splashing the striker who had recently wrapped himself in a towel. The birthday boy was clearly not a big fan and tried to wrestle his teammate’s attention away – although Lukaku could not help cracking a smile himself. Eventually, Jorginho himself was dragged into the pool. When the dust had settled Mount shared the footage to his Instagram story, along with the caption: ‘Birthday present for the big man.’”
