Tottenham are reportedly readying a bid for Eintracht Frankfurt winger Filip Kostic as Antonio Conte looks to strengthen his side ahead of, in all likelihood, Champions League football next season.
That is according to the Daily Express, who claim that the Lilywhites were in attendance for the Europa League football in order to watch the Serbian wingback.
Kostic turned in an impressive performance in helping his side defeat Rangers on penalties, with his delivery from wide areas particularly eye-catching, while he also kept Rangers’ talisman James Tavernier quiet for long spells.
And, the Express report, the interest both from Tottenham and Conte has been lengthy.
‘Tottenham were interested in Kostic in January but no bid was forthcoming then’ they report. ‘Now though, manager Antonio Conte is intent on moving for a player he has admired for some time’.
It is thought that any deal would set the Lilywhites back around £25m.
One more step for Spurs
A return to the top table of European football is back within touching distance for Spurs heading into the final day of the Premier League season. The only thing standing between them and securing fourth spot is already relegated Norwich City, who the Lilywhites only need to pick up a draw against in order to cement their position.
Should they lose, unlikely given the form of the sides, then they will have to rely on Arsenal, two points behind them, to drop points against Everton at the Emirates Stadium.
Champions League football, and solid backing behind Conte this summer, could turn the Lilywhites into contenders for silverware next season, which many of their fans would agree is long overdue.
90 minutes stand between them and their goal.
