Liverpool have been the most in-form team in world football since the turn of the year, having lost just once (1-0 in the Champions League to Inter Milan) in 2022.
While they will not win the quadruple, pipped to the Premier League on the final day of the season by Manchester City, this is a squad in its prime that could still pick up a cup treble with a Champions League final win over Real Madrid in Paris.
But what about beyond that? How does the squad evolve? 101 took a look at every member of Jurgen Klopp’s side and took a look at who should stay, and whose time at Anfield may be up.
Goalkeepers
Alisson
A no-brainer. Sharing the golden glove with Ederson this season, Alisson is set to be in goal for the foreseeable future.
Verdict: Keep
🧤 No goalkeeper kept more clean sheets than Alisson in Europe’s top 5 leagues this season (20)

Caohmin Kelleher
A brilliant understudy as he showed in the Carabao Cup final. If he is happy to stay then he should do just that.
Verdict: Keep
Adrian
One year left on his contract and not going to get any gametime at Anfield. Time to move him on.
Verdict: Sell
Loris Karius
His Liverpool time has been over for some time, and he will leave on a free this summer.
Verdict: Sell
Defenders
Trent Alexander Arnold
A truly generational talent going forwards, and still just 23 years-old. Unless he chooses to move on in the future, he is expected to remain at the club.
Verdict: Keep
Joe Gomez
Could still fetch a hefty price should he be sold in the Premier League, but seems to have fallen into backup right back at Liverpool. May be worth looking to move him on.
Verdict: Sell
Nat Phillips
Seems surplus to requirements and his stock is high after a good loan spell. Could be another chance to generate additional funds.
Verdict: Sell
Neco Williams
Another who spent last season on loan, and seems to be well off the calibre needed at Anfield. May be best to part ways.
Verdict: Sell
Virgil Van Dijk
One of several untouchable pieces in the Liverpool puzzle.
Verdict: Keep
Joel Matip
Had a brilliant season and is a great option to partner Van Dijk.
Verdict: Keep
Rhys Williams
Can’t get a look in and is likely to leave this summer.
Verdict: Sell
Ibrahima Konate
Enjoyed a great debut season and is sure to improve. A long term leader of the defence.
Verdict: Keep
Kostas Tsimikas
Has proved a brilliant backup for Andy Robertson and the ‘Greek scouser’ has become a cult hero.
Verdict: Keep
Andy Robertson
A key performer on the left-hand side in the prime of his career. Definitely staying.
Verdict: Keep
Minutes played in the Premier League this season:
◉ 1775 – Reece James
◉ 2451 – Andy Robertson
◉ 2763 – Trent Alexander-Arnold— Squawka (@Squawka) May 19, 2022
Midfielders
Fabinho
The only recognised defensive midfielder in the squad, and one of the best in the world at what he does.
Verdict: Keep
Thiago
Has come into his own this season and offers skills that no one else in the midfield can.
Verdict: Keep
Naby Keita
Has had a mixed season and is out of contract next summer. May be worth exploring what they could get for the 27-year-old, even if it would be a massive loss.
Verdict: Sell
Jordan Henderson
A leader on and off the pitch even as his role in games may continue to diminish.
Verdict: Keep
James Milner
The ultimate professional, Milner would not be worth selling for the value he offers on the pitch when needed.
Verdict: Keep
Curtis Jones
Needs to continue to work but could be a successor to Milner in an ageing midfield.
Verdict: Keep
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Has never really shone consistently in a Liverpool shirt, and is out of contract in 12 months. A move to the likes of West Ham or Southampton could suit all parties.
Verdict: Sell
Forwards
Harvey Elliot
A leg break robbed him from continuing to impress in a Liverpool shirt this season. Will be handed plenty of chances next season.
Verdict: Keep
Sadio Mane
With one year left on his contract, Mane is perhaps in his best Liverpool form. However, on Liverpool’s self-sufficient model, should they need to raise funds it may be hard to turn down a significant bid.
Verdict: Sell
Roberto Firmino
Like Mane, has just one year left on his contract. The same thinking applies.
Verdict: Sell
Mohamed Salah
Mo Salah has already confirmed he will be at Liverpool next season even as contract negotiations roll on.
Verdict: Keep
Luis Diaz
Has been a revelation since arriving in January. Certain to stay this summer and likely many more to come.
Verdict: Keep
Divock Origi
The Liverpool cult hero is joining AC Milan as a free agent.
Verdict: Sell
Takumi Minamino
A very useful squad player who has proven his worth in the cups. One to keep.
Verdict: Keep
Diogo Jota
Had a very good season overshadowed by Luis Diaz, but still remains a top option for Klopp.
Verdict: Keep
