Liverpool played out their final game of the 2021/22 season on Saturday, May 28.
The Reds were taking on Champions League specialists Real Madrid in the competition’s showpiece in Paris.
Ahead of the game, it was hard to choose a winner, with Liverpool, on paper, the better side overall whilst Real Madrid are the kings of the competition and, as shown in the knockout rounds, are more than capable of winning ties despite being outplayed for large parts of a game.
And, when all was said and done at the Stade de France, it was Real Madrid who came out on top via a 1-0 win.
Madrid have now clinched a staggering 14 Champions League, whilst Liverpool’s 2021/22, which promised so much, ended on a rather flat note.
After the final on May 28, there has been a lot of talk about Liverpool and their performances in finals.
Granted, they did win the FA Cup and League Cup this season, but they only did so via penalty shootouts, not scoring a single goal in all three of their final appearances this season.
So, 101 have decided to take a look back at Jurgen Klopp’s cup final record following his latest defeat.
Jurgen Klopp’s record in cup finals
Klopp was won a decent amount of silverware during his time as a manager, claiming 11 trophies with Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool.
However, his record in cup finals is not that impressive. The German won the DFL Pokal Cup once and the DFL Super Cup twice with Dortmund.
With Liverpool, meanwhile, he has won the Champions League, League Cup, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and, if you can really count it, the FIFA Club World Cup all once with the Reds, giving him a total of eight cup final victories.
However, the Liverpool boss has also lost seven cup finals throughout his career. With BVB he lost the Champions League final vs Bayern Munich, DFL Pokal vs Bayern and the DFL Pokal again vs Wolfsburg.
Then, for Liverpool, Klopp lost to Manchester City in a League Cup final, to Sevilla in a Europa League final, and to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in both 2018 and, of course, 2022.
