Manchester United and Chelsea have been handed something of a boost in their respective hunts of RB Leipzig star, Christopher Nkunku.
The 24-year-old is naturally a central attacking midfielder. However, he has played in a number of positions this term, including up front in a two.
His most prominent role, though, has come as an attacking midfielder in a front three.
This saw Nkunku score a staggering 30 goals and provide 20 assists in 46 games across all competitions last term.
Such impressive production was expected to see Nkunku, who is under contract until 2024, command a mammoth transfer sum when RB Leipzig do eventually opt to sell him.
Nkunku has been linked with many Premier League clubs over the course of the current season, with Chelsea and Manchester United the sides most heavily credited with an interest.
Both teams are expected to be left disappointed this season after RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff insisted that Nkunku will not be leaving the German club during this summer’s transfer window:
“I have said it before, and I will say it again here: Nkunku will be our player again next season. Our goal is to keep the team together for next season”, Mintzlaff told Sky Deutschland.
However, it now appears as though Nkunku could be available for a fairly reasonable fee next year.
This comes amid claims Nkunku’s new contract, which runs until 2024, will include a buyout clause of just €60m that will be active next summer.
🚨🇫🇷 NEW:
Nkunku extends its contract with RB Leipzig until 2024. The new contract also includes a buyout clause that will be activated in the summer of 2023 of 60 million € . #MUFC, Real & PSG are interested. @LVZ ✍️
